A modern Maori fairytale that fuses the power of live orchestra with the spectacle of dance.

Magical and mythical creatures combine in a contemporary Maori fairytale, inspired by millennia of myth, a Russian ballet, and the possibilities of youth, imagination and friendship.

Danced by a cast of over 150 school students from across Auckland, to Stravinsky’s score for the ballet The Firebird with a full live orchestra and enormous stage set, Te Manu Ahi is presented in just one public performance. It shows what can be created when two of New Zealand’s leading arts companies collaborate to create a brand new work.

Experience this spectacular theatrical event with family, colleagues or friends all in the space of a single lunchtime.

Prepare for an uplifting hour of music and dance, which also includes short favourite orchestral works including Flight of the Bumblebee, ‘Hedwig’s Flight’ from Harry Potter and more.

Te Manu Ahi is a collaboration between Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra and Atamira Dance Company.
