The month of May is a busy one at MOTAT! There's our 1950's Mother's Day special event to look forward to as well as an exciting programme of tech experiences taking place in The Idea Collective for the first ever Techweek AKL. Not to mention the return of the popular 'Science in a Van' duo!
We are also introducing Weekends of Imagination, a series of brand new activities specifically created to engage young minds!

Celebrate the special women in your life this Mother's day as MOTAT takes you back in time to the rockin' 1950s. Think roller skates, milkshakes and rock 'n' roll as we set the mood around the Museum with vintage car displays, fashion shows and more!
There is plenty to see and do - from being pampered in the pop-up beauty salon to enjoying live performances, browsing through vintage market stalls and being serenaded by the sounds of the House of Bamboo.
This is one nostalgic event you definitely won't want to miss!

The popular 'Science in a Van' duo is coming back to MOTAT to perform their interactive family shows aimed at engaging children with science and teaching them about this fascinating subject in a fun and memorable way.

Get ready to be inspired as The Idea Collective kicks off the inaugural Techweek AKL from 16 - 22 May.There will be demonstrations of cutting-edge gaming machines, virtual and augmented reality and advancements in haptic technology.
Why not come along and test your skills on a wide range of indie computer games courtesy of AUT Pigsty, Pop-Up Arcade and The New Zealand Gaming Developers Association? Or you could learn how to make your own computer game, be introduced to the world of robotics and the wonder of 3D printing.

MOTAT is offering three exciting activities to support the nationwide events focused on this year's topic -Soil.
Become a soil scientist and discover the best conditions for growing kumara; learn how to make your own recycle paper and make a victorian rag rug sampler to take home with you.
Activities will be suitable for ages 4 and up (adult supervision required) and participation is free for MOTAT visitors.

Scribble, smear or splatter - it's all about creating with paint for our unique new art gallery. Illustrate your favourite museum artefact, colour in a ready made design or generate a personal MOTAT wish list.
