Matariki has been recognised as a significant indigenous national celebration and a way to share Aotearoa/ New Zealand’s unique heritage and culture. Each winter the stars of Matariki and Puanga signal the end of one year in Aotearoa and the beginning of the next. Traditionally Māori have recognised the rise of Matariki as a time to celebrate and prepare for the indigenous New Year.Watch the story of Matariki .
Matariki is about the celebration of history, family, culture, language, spirit and people. Matariki is also a time of renewal, contemplation, and a time to prepare seeds of sustenance and success.
